I saw that, and it immediately discouraged me from running a "then & now" posting.
As to Harry Potter themes, well, all I can say about that absurdity is that this theme is now used across Lutheran churches all over German-speaking lands to attract more parishioners…
When my phone was replaced, I didn't bother putting my email or social media apps on it, except for Messenger for when I went on holiday. I only boot up my laptop once a week to check emails, banking, etc. It's very annoying to me that logging on anywhere now involves receiving one time pass codes to phone, or email, to log in anywhere. My life is much better for it, however, I admit to being hooked on substack! I scroll through and read up on many subjects daily, using my TV and Firestick, from the comfort of my armchair! I've decided to pare down my subscriptions due to information overload, but, rest assured, The Erich Sonntag Postcard Collection won't be culled as it's a pleasant relief from the rest of my subscriptions.
I suppose one could freely add an 'economic' dimension by pointing to the value of such "trash" communication being, well, perhaps below zero, at least for those who participate in it. There are, however, always individuals and institutions alike that benefit from this kind of--and I think the terms isn't wrong--human misery.
Sadly, this is true, and then there's the entire mental aspect: knowing that this is the case, why bother? It's a bit like permitting your middle schooler to run his or her "own" (sic) social media channel…
Jumping straight to your comment “musing” I feel you hit the nail on the head with evil in various guises profiting off human misery. Hence creating products to cause it.
Personal responsibility has been a key driver and motto for me since many moons ago I saw through western quick fix (so called) medicine.
How we reel in or reset wider so parents/families take back power and morals, I don’t know, it’s both as you say a big big issue yet at the same time as simple as watching evocative simple postcards or indeed sitting in nature listening to the waves.
I'm unsure how to fix any of this save beginning on the family level and keeping going despite--against--all odds.
I mean, in terms of theory being fatally wrong, neoliberalism and "economic man" are both obvious fallacies: just ask anyone who's ever cared for anyone else and didn't charge anything (e.g., a parent and his or her child); in this, by the way, the "socialist" ethos is perhaps even worse as it places "the collective" above the individual, which means there's no-one who's ultimately responsible.
Sadly, Land‘s End today is a circus, including a Harry Potter theme park.

Oh, I share these sentiments about "two-factor authentication".
As to your kind words, that's about the nicest testimony about my little weblog here that I've yet heard! Thank you very much!
Well said. Thanks for that.

Different world now. There are no untouched areas
