Not seen the pyramids but I've ridden a (very smelly) camel and part taken in sweet, mint tea, at an oasis, somewhere on outskirts of Sharm el Sheikh, authentic bedouin tent, of course!
Ah, I've never been--my father-in-law went in the 1970s, I think, and he speaks of climbing to the top of the biggest pyramid (there were precious few tourists there, back then), but since you mention Sharm el Sheik, I'm pretty sure I'll have some postcards from there, too (coming soon).
Well, I suppose it's also about the sheer amount of tourism in any one place (if the tons of postcards from the 1970s on Italy's upper Adriatic--one of Austrians' and Germans' premier summer vacation destination--is any indication…).
