Well, back then beauty counted for something--and I'd throw in the value-judgement of 'look at today's soul-crushing' building styles masquerading as 'architecture'.

Yeah, why build something that no one wants to look at

My guess is--to break the spirit of those who must look at it, go inside, or deal with the people/institutions inside.

Agree. Creativity begets independence. Easy control requires dependence.

The first card is particularly pretty. Hand-tinted photograph, I guess.

“Singers’ Hall” – how barbaric; didn’t they know that’s how viruses spread? Music should be appreciated alone in a room wearing ear buds

Unsure if it's hand-coloured, but it's a certain, pre-WW1 style that looks like a kind of print that was coloured afterwards (I don't think it's a lithograph), hence the reduced number of colours.

As to your other quip, well, the postcard is dated 1910, i.e., even (sic) before 'the first pandemic™' (1918-19), so I propose these were 'simpler', and perhaps even 'better', times.

As to ear buds vs. wired headphones, well, I'd always opt for the latter; yes, a bit more 'hassle' (in terms of disentangling), but way, way, way less ionising radiation near the brain.

I’m a U.S. person, but for some reason the banning of singing in Germany was one of the things that really got under my skin in 2020. I have a friend who is an alumnus of the Regensburger Domspatzen, and the gall to throw an ancient tradition like that into the Pfizer-BioNTech-sponsored dumpster made me so angry, and showed clearly that the dominion of covid knew no bounds.
